Really?

I just got my COBRA papers today. Apparently, I can insure my family and myself for the low, low price of $780 a month!

Is that really supposed to help me somehow? Let's face it, if we had a huge medical emergency we'd just go bankrupt and lose the house. There's no way to make a house payment and a COBRA payment. So my options are to a) not pay my mortgage, but pay COBRA - and lose my house. Or, b) pay my mortgage and lose my house in a medical emergency. Eithr way I'm royally and completely screwed.

And, if the medical problem "only" costs us a few thousand...well, I could pay that in cash if I just kept the COBRA money.

I see no benefit for me here.
