Southern FrontRunner Spur

I didn't realize, but this week was the groundbreaking for the next section in UTA's FrontRunner build-out.

Near as we can figure, there will be a station at the I-15/Bangerter Highway junction. That's mere miles from our house. It will make it super easy to hop on the train and head north to see the family. We actually prefer the train right now. Not only does it spare our cars the wear-and-tear, and allows both Jena and I to relax, but with UTA's current Family Pass offering ($14.50 for all of us), it actually ends up being cheaper to take the train than to drive.

Is it inconvenient? Right now, yeah, a little. But we all (our family) like riding trains, so that sort of smooths over the inconvenience.

It takes a little bit longer to get there right now because we have to either take Trax down to the hub (takes about 45 minutes), or we have to drive to the inter-modal hub, which is about halfway to Layton, anyway. Still, I think we all prefer the train.

UTA has some issues with their bus routes, and they're trying their hardest to make bus fare cost as much as driving would, but those two things aside, I think the Wasatch Front is getting some really good infrastructure put in place that will eventually make mass transit a very viable thing for most of us.

Once they get the Trax spur out to Daybreak, we'll almost never have to drive more than 5 miles. We'll be able to take mass transit almost everywhere! (we hope!)
