bang bang

Josh invited me to go shooting last night. We went to some inconspicuous place on Redwood Road called Doug's Shooting 'N Sports.

I hadn't shot a pistol since I was like 8 years old. That's...uh...24 years, so I was a little nervous. Actually, fairly nervous. Not having a lot of exposure to guns, I'm still intimidated by them. Josh was obviously very comfortable with his gun, but I found myself trying to hide the shakes for the first few rounds.

Josh has a Springfield Armory XD-40. Not having a gun of my own, I used his. It was a pleasant surprise. It was comfortable to hold and didn't have much kick at all, despite being .40 caliber.

I really had a good time, and it rekindled the desire to get me one. We went upstairs to the shop and I looked at some of the other models that they had. Specifically, the Glock 27, which is almost the same size. I think I like the XD-40 better. It's got a grip safety, for one, and has an indicator on the back to show you whether the gun is cocked and ready. The Glock did have a lower profile, which was pretty cool, but I think the extra features of the XD-40 are awesome.

Josh's is the sub-compact, with the 3" barrel. I really can't say what I would prefer without having shot some others, but I think a longer grip would be nice.

Anyway, just musing for now, until I can rustle up the hectobucks required to make a purchase, then I'll start really drilling down into the features I want..
