The Watcher in the Woods

We watched The Watcher in the Woods last night. I was always creeped out by that movie. It was just really well done. This was the first time I'd seen it on DVD and was interested to see that there were 2 alternate endings. Jena read up on them and apparently one of them was the original release ending, but audiences really didn't like it, so it was re-worked into the ending that I was familiar with.

I have to say that the re-worked ending was the best choice of the 3. The other 2 endings featured a Watcher that was a creepy insecto-alien thing that just felt out of place and over-the-top. Maybe it's truer to the book (haven't read it), but I didn't find either of the alternate endings to be as good as the current one.

Jena and I were talking about how the way they filmed it and the costumes and sets were almost timeless. You really didn't feel like you were watching a movie that is about 30 years old. The alternate endings kind of ruined that effect, though, with the alien and spaceship special effects.

Good movie!
